The Children’s Hospital at Westmead Smoking Ceremony

"In partnership with Health Infrastructure, the project team is committed to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal people and collaborating with the community to ensure the new hospital is a culturally safe space for everyone."

It was a privilege to be joined by Darug Elder Uncle Colin Locke last week as he conducted a smoking ceremony on the future site of the Paediatric Services Building at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW).

Uncle Colin performed a Welcome to Country and explained the role of the ceremony in cleansing the area and promoting the well-being of our hospital’s visitors. With the site now cleansed, we are looking forward to starting main works for the project early next year.

It was an honour for the Roberts Co team to join Cathryn Cox (SCHN CE), The Hon Kristina K. (Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) CEO), Leisa Rathborne (Health Infrastructure, Executive Director) and other special guests.

In partnership with Health Infrastructure, the project team is committed to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal people and collaborating with the community to ensure the new hospital is a culturally safe space for everyone.
